INSURANCE
Adulting Simplified
While day-to-day life as a grown-up comes with a lot of responsibility and decisions, CAA can help.

There are days when being an adult feels like a full-time job. There are so many responsibilities, and some seem so complex that they’re going to be a challenge. Like insurance. It’s an expense, and there are a lot of options — house, car, pet, travel — so understanding how it works and why it’s needed can be a lot to manage. Insurance is often one of the responsibilities people delay, especially when they’re unsure of what coverage they need or are worried about how much it will cost. Insurance can be complicated — but it doesn’t have to be. “It’s our job to explain it,” says Lori Madsen, general manager of insurance operations at CAA Saskatchewan. “It’s so important to have a professional that you trust, a professional that is [guiding] you properly.” Insurance becomes less complicated when you understand your coverage. It can be even easier when you develop a relationship with your broker, who can then advise you about the right products. “If you have an upcoming wedding, you probably need liability insurance. Do you run a business? You need to make sure that you’re covered for that,” Madsen says. There are many different products, from coverage for home and auto to pets, vacation homes and even boat insurance. “Everything we do needs to be protected,” she says, explaining that insurance isn’t just for the replacement value for your possessions — it’s liability coverage, too.

While property protection is standard, pet insurance is also a consideration. “We look at our pets as our children — part of our family,” says Madsen. “You can get pet insurance for the big things, such as surgeries [or] illnesses down the road. There are policies out there that will [cover] their annual checkup. You can insure for as much or as little as you need.” Madsen recognizes that when a pet needs help, it becomes an emotional situation, and nobody should have the burden of deciding whether they can afford care. Adulting brings a lot of responsibility, and having all of the right insurance products is part of the job. Having multiple providers just adds to the challenge. “We can do it in one place,” says Madsen. “And guess what? You’re going to save money doing it in one place, too.” Bundling is a great way to reduce the mental load while also unlocking savings. Members who bundle home1 and auto extension insurance2 can save 10 percent on their property insurance premium and five percent on auto extension insurance. CAA Members also receive 10 percent off travel insurance premiums. Simplifying insurance needs is a great way to make adulting a little less stressful. CAA
